Athletic Performance

athletic performance

One of the questions we are always asked is “What is the role of Chiropractic in Sports? Well, the primary benefit is injury prevention. Having your body in proper alignment assures that your muscles will allow optimal movement of your joints and lessen the strain on your muscles, tendons, ligaments, and adjacent joints that are being used during activity. This remains even more important today as youth athletes are involved in their primary sport throughout the year and have much less rest. It is paramount for injury prevention to have all the joints in optimal alignment allowing normal motion to prevent unnecessary injury even in non-contact sports. The rise in ligament and joint injury from non-contact injuries has been on the rise for years and there are numerous factors including shoe wear, field conditions, male/female that play a role in the rise in injuries, including body alignment. The more any joint has abnormal movement patterns the higher the correlation of injury. We highly recommend that all athletes have their alignment checked throughout their athletic season, especially before competition.  You will find a chiropractor on the medical staff of all professional sports teams and their primary role is prevention. Make sure you ask your sports chiropractor about a sports screening to assure you are in proper alignment to maximize performance and prevent injuries.
